Dorthe Thomas MediSpa use the newest, third generation technology in hair reduction called SHR.
SHR stands for super hair removal SHR combines laser technology and pulse light to achieve almost painless results for the reduction of most types of hair and is safe on all skin types. SHR is different from the traditional IPL and laser as it targets the hair germ cells and blood supply that feeds it. It does not rely solely on the colour (pigment) of the hair to effectively destroy the targeted hair. New research has shown that a slower, longer heating process is more effective for permanent hair reduction than high and short levels of energy. Benefits of SHR Hair Reduction *More Effective Than standard IPL *Pain Free just feel like a warming sensation *Faster Results Than IPL – Typically 4-8 Treatments *Can Treat All Skin & Hair Types –Even Tanned Skin HOW THE SHR SYSTEM WORKS Differences between IPL and SHR wavelength For hair reduction treatments, other systems uses the 640-1200 nm wavelengths. However, the hair follicle does not need such broad light spectrum. We use the professional 430-590nm wavelength. The precise wavelength will not only improve results, it will also reduce the level of pain during the treatment. The SHR hand piece delivers light energy that gradually heats the skin by pulse stacking or a sliding technique until the ideal amount of energy is delivered to the hair root. This new technology heats the follicle gently and for longer. This means the hair germ cells and blood supply are directly targeted. Hair follicles are not damaged by a single high energy pulse as in laser or IPL but by repetitive application of low energy pulses that raise the temperature of the dermis gradually and for longer. IS IT SAFE? IPL Hair reduction is the most popular aesthetic treatments for hair reduction . When combining medically graded and FDA approved technologies with qualified Skin and Laser Specialists, laser hair reduction is very safe. Our experienced technicians are internationally trained and all have IPL and laser safety certification. We provide an extensive consultation process to assess suitability, reduce any risk and to provide the best possible outcome. Our machines are both FDA and CE approved and our manufacturer has been used by medical professionals around the world for many years. HOW DOES IT FEEL? The SHR machine filters out unnecessary wavelengths which are not needed which makes the treatment very comfortable and almost painless. Most people say it just feels like a pleasant warm massage. WHAT ARE THE AREAS THAT CAN BE TREATED? SHR is safe for all skin types and all hair types can be treated, including some blonde, grey and finer hairs. It can even be used on tanned skin.We recommend however that you are not actively tanning at the time of your treatment. Blonder, lighter and grey hairs are more difficult to treat and may need more treatments but we can test an area prior if needed to ensure our treatment is suitable. HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED? Most people vary in the number of treatments required, this does depend on where their hair cycles are when we first start but usually most people need around 8 treatments. Some would need more. For best results, on average we recommend 6 to 8 treatments. This will allow hairs to be disabled effectively during the active growth phase. After completing a treatment course, if required, we recommend maintenance touch ups to be performed 1 to 3 times. People suffering from hormone imbalance may required more treatments. HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO COME IN? We usually space our treatments 4 to 8 weeks apart depending on the areas we treat. Most people are either 4 or 6 weeks on the facial areas or 6 to 8 weeks on the body. As the hair slows down and becomes finer we usually space out your sessions. WILL THE HAR GROW BACK ? The short answer is no. However between 6-10 session are normally needed. Once the hair follicle has been destroyed it cannot grow new hair. However there are sometimes the odd hair gem cells that manage to partially escape the laser during each treatment. Some of these follicles may be only stunned and will need to be retreated. It is also possible to have new hair growth triggered if you go through any hormonal changes such as starting or stopping contraceptive pills, pregnancy, menopause, changes in medications or long term stress. It is rare but can happen. Our technician will talk this through with you in your consultation. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SEE THE RESULTS? It usually takes 14 days to 3 weeks before the hair is actually shed, sometimes this cannot be visually seen like older lasers that burn the hair off, this is a gradual reduction done is the safest and more clinically proved way. Until that time it may appear as if it is still growing as the hair is pushed to the surface and eventually falls out of the hair follicle. Often the hair can fall out in the shower or when you are exfoliating or shaving your skin. SHOULD I SHAVE BEFORE THE TREATMENT? Shaving the day before your treatment is recommended and you may shave again twenty-four hours after treatment unless you are told otherwise. For the face, it is best to leave the area untouched for your first treatment or only use hair removal creams specifically for sensitive skin at least 5 days prior. Please call or ask us in your consultation if you have any concerns on this. Do not use tweezers, wax, electrolysis, thread or bleach at least 4 weeks prior to your first treatment. Only trimming with a scissors or shaving is recommended. DO I NEED A CONSULTATION? Yes - We require all clients to have an extensive consultation for : Recording all medical history and conditions Assess if the treatment is appropriate for you Explain the laser process Advise pre and post treatment care instructions Perform a test patch (This will allow you to feel the laser on your skin and we can see how your skin respond ) Advise the cost of treatment if needed. WHAT SHOULD I DO DURING TREATMENTS Avoid the following activities on the day of your treatment and following 48 hours. Use of strong exfoliant creams Swimming pools and spas Excise Activities that cause excessive perspiration like the gym Sun exposure for the first 5 days Deodorants for 24hrs prior and after each treatment to the underarms. Please avoid the following activities in between treatments: Avoid Solariums or applying fake tan 5 days prior. We do recommend that you don’t actively tan during your sessions. Avoid exfoliants during the first week after your treatment. Direct Sun exposure (apply SPF 30 + sunscreen) on areas being treated) Long term sun beds (cover all areas being treated for safety reasons.) We will provide you with a aftercare sheet on your first visit. Please talk to your laser technician at anytime if you have any questions. WILL MY MEDICATION AFFECT MY TREATMENTS Certain medications may affect your laser treatment if they are photosensitive (such as Roaccutane, Retin A or doxycycline which can cause potential burns or pigmentation). If you are taking any medications it is best to advise your IPL and laser technician so that we can ensure the safest possible treatment results for you. Depending on your medication we may suggest performing treatments at least 6 months after you have finished your course of tablets. WILL SHR IPL WORK IF I HAVE A HORMONAL CONDITION Yes Females who are experiencing Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) or any hormonal conditions can achieve excellent results, it may take a little longer and touch up treatments will be required every 3 to 6 months as ongoing maintenance. We can assess if our treatments will be suitable for you in your consultation. SHOULD I HAVE SHR IPL IF I AM PREGNANT? SHR hair removal treatments are becoming more popular, because they are very safe people often think it is ok to have treatments done while pregnant or breast feeding. We don’t recommend you start treatments until 6 months after your baby is born, for safety and hormonal reasons. |
